I recently had the opportunity to join a group of talented bloggers in Minnesota for Wagner Spray Tech’s Inspraytional Event 2018. First of all, it needs to be said that the folks at Wagner are an incredible team of genuine, fun people. I am so grateful for the invitation and the chance to participate in this amazing event.
That was a lot of adjectives, but all of them are totally merited.
I am going to tell you a little bit about how it all went down. It involves a fun challenge, and the chance for you to cast your vote for a challenge champion and win yourself a Flexio 3000 paint sprayer by Wagner at the same time. So stay tuned through the end, because you know you want one.
While there we all had the opportunity for some hands on training on different sprayers. This wasn’t my first time working with Wagner sprayers. I used the Studio Pro when I replaced all of our window trim, and the Flexio 4000 for both our kitchen cabinetry and the large barn doors I built for our new pantry and bathroom. Which is to say, I am a big fan of painting with a sprayer.
After a fun look at PPG Paint’s line of gorgeous paint colors we each drew a color to use for a paint challenge. We were given a small breakfast nook and table set to paint and decorate over the course of about six hours. Whaaa?! Oh my gosh, talk about fun. This was a blast.
Have you ever wondered how you would do in a reality tv competition? I mean, who hasn’t, right?! Okay, so this wasn’t quite the same, but it is probably the closest yours truly will ever get to one, and I had a freaking blast. So here is how it went down…play by play thought process:
“Okay, I’m going to roll with whichever color I draw. No hoping for something specific.”
“Oooo, green! Reminds me of Portland. Oh yeah, I can roll with this.”
“Hmmmm, Portland. Small space design. Retro vibe color….”
“BAM. Portland hipster loft apartment. LETS. DO. THIS.”
Guys, I’m a woodworker first. I just happen to love design as well. But I am not going to kid you here…it could easily have been overwhelming being among so many truly talented women. Full stop. Everyone was lovely and terrific and great. No reality tv show competitive vibes here, folks.
We got to work in this amazing innovation center, which was set up with little “rooms” for each of us to design.
For this challenge we got to pick our decor from a massive pile of stuff.
The floors were covered with a papery thin material to protect them from the paint. I cut up strips of painters tape into thin pieces and used them to form a template for a faux wood floor. Okay, so it’s hard to reproduce wood on material with black paint, tape, and some white paint…but I like how it turned out!
We could paint what we wanted and get creative. I knew right away that I wasn’t painting the table. Which was 1. Because I knew everyone else was going to paint their tables, and 2. Because that green paint paired with wood tone like a dream. Instead I had the finish ripped off of the table using the Wagner paint eater. It was a bit outside the normal use of that tool, but hey, you gotta use what you have, right?!
And here’s how the Portland inspired breakfast nook turned out!
It’s funky, and it’s playful. And I am happy with it and amused all at once.
Here’s to you, my lovely city of Portland. With love.
A HUGE thank you to Wagner for this incredible opportunity. I needed like 14 straight hours of sleep afterward, and was very happily worn out.
Before you go, here’s where you get the chance to sound off, and maybe even win your very own Flexio 3000 paint sprayer! Wagner is allowing everyone to vote for their favorite design. You can choose here. A winner will be chosen November 4th. So head over and vote, because your odds of winning are about a million times better than winning that massive lottery everyone is all riled up about.
