Houses are probably my favorite design motif. They find their way into my decor every season in some form or other. Christmas is one of my favorites, and this year I added a wooden houses to the mix.
This one is made from curly maple and sits on my console.
I have some friends that own a flooring business who share sample material and reclaimed stuff from time to time, and that made for some really fun wood to work with. Here’s one out of mahogany.
I have even made these wooden houses out of reclaimed barn wood!
But my favorite is the curly maple.
Isn’t that just beautiful?!
You don’t have to have fancy hardwoods or reclaimed barn wood, though. This set of wooden houses is made from good old salvaged cedar fencing.
As much as I love houses, these are not actually all up around my house (crazy house lady!) I am happy to announce the opening of my brand new Etsy shop, as of, um, about five minutes ago. Check it out, and pick up a village set if you don’t feel like making one yourself.
Make one yourself? That’s right, because I love you guys so much I am actually going to give you the template to make them for yourself if you like. My Christmas gift to you! The template is for every single one of the 12 designs above. Every. Single. One.
These are simple to make, easy to modify, and they make a great Christmas gift, decor item, or children’s play toy. I thought about making these something you get when you sign up for my email newsletter, but hey, it’s the holidays. And if you want to give me some love and sign up so you don’t miss out on all of the diy fun, then that would be great, too.
The template is the same size as the last photo of the cedar houses. You can enlarge or shrink to make them any size you like. Enjoy! And if you make a set of these send a photo and I’ll share your work on my Facebook page. Happy holidays!
Psssst, one more thing. The Etsy shop carries more than just wooden houses, so give it a look and see if anything catches your eye. If there is something you would like that you don’t see, shoot me a message and I’ll see what I can do.
